I offer woodworking instruction in a one-on-one setting. I specialize in working with beginners who have little-to-no experience and help them learn the basics, and start making projects.

I can walk anyone through the fundamentals. If you have some experience, I can work with you to refine specific skills. Unlike project focused classes in which you learn skills while making a piece of furniture, I like to focus on the skills first and then talk about projects. You may not leave the shop with a project in hand, but you should leave with the confidence and knowledge to use tools safely and competently.

I offer sessions on Tuesdays at 1, 3, and 5pm; Wednesdays at 5pm, and Saturday mornings at 9 and 11. Each session is 90 minutes long. On occasion, I will offer sessions at other times. I teach out of my home studio, which is a small garage, outfit with all the basic power tools and hand tools. It is located in Capitol Hill.

What to expect:

A single class ($125) will give you a brief introduction to wood science and a few tools.

5 class passes ($600) typically include building confidence on multiple tools (power and hand tools), sometimes a small cutting board, and discussions on project planning. The focus here is preparing people to work in a communal shop, or start acquiring tools to work and learn on their own.

10 class pass ($1100) will usually include all of the above, plus a small project of the student’s choice. There is not always enough time to complete projects, but we can get started together. Other students may decide to really refine a specific skill, such as hand cut joinery, or table saw work. It really is up to each individual.

Some students decide to stay on and keep working with me to make additional projects.
